About Us
The orchestra was formed in 2013 as the Launceston Philharmonic Orchestra and in in 2014 changed its name to the City of Launceston Philharmonic Orchestra. The original orchestra commenced as a collaboration between the University of Tasmania Wind Orchestra and the St Cecilia Chamber Orchestra.
We usually give three to four concerts each season, covering a wide range of music from traditional symphonic repertoire to more adventurous works. Recent seasons have included Beethoven’s Symphony No 7 and Egmont Overture, Saint-Seans Danse Macabre, Sibelius’ Finlandia, and Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.
City of Launceston Philharmonic Orchestra funds itself through the Box Office and with support from its partners. We also receive donations for performing with various choral societies.
We are proud to be regularly involved with local charities and to work with other music organisations in fostering the next generation of conductors.
